REIKI & MASSAGE

Reiki and massage have similar relaxation goals promoting health and well-being; however they are different in technique.  Reiki is an energy therapy technique and massage is a body therapy technique.

Reiki and massage are both considered to be non-conventional health care approaches. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) has defined and classified them in order to help consumers be informed and better understand these treatment options. See classifications below.

Massage is classified as a "Manipulation and Body-Based" practice.  Massage involves manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to enhance tissue function and promote relaxation.

Reiki is classified as an "Energy Therapy" practice.  Reiki involves the use of channeled spiritual energy and light touch for the purpose of relaxation to re-balance one's energy and promote healing of the mind, body, and spirit.

There is also a hybrid treatment known as Reiki-Massage that integrates both of these techniques.
