REIKI WITH OTHER CARE
Reiki is safe both on its own and in conjunction with other therapies or conventional medical treatments including medical and psychological care.
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), defines a non-conventional health care approach (such as Reiki) as "complementary care" when used together with conventional medicine. In contrast the terminology "alternative care" refers to a non-conventional health care approach that is used in-place-of conventional medicine. Kim recommends using Reiki as complementary care and as a personal lifestyle practice to maintain good health and well-being. Kim does not practice, promote, nor intend Reiki to be used in-place-of conventional medical care nor as a reason to delay seeking conventional medical care.
Reiki is gaining acceptance as a complementary health care approach by patients and medical professionals as a way to improve regular patient care. In fact, Reiki is being offered in over 800 hospitals across the U.S. and is being given to patients in operating rooms and intensive care units.

In interviews conducted by Reiki Master William Lee Rand, nurses and other medical professionals who practice Reiki in hospitals have reported improved mental attitude of the patient, decreased recovery time from surgery, along with reduced unwanted side effects from medical procedures and medications including chemotherapy and radiation.

Dr. David Guillion, an oncologist at Marin General, stated, "...healing is a multidimensional process...I endorse the idea that there is potential healing that can take place utilizing energy."
